PNG vs JPG: when to convert
PNG is lossless, which is great for logos and screenshots but makes photos huge. Converting a photo from PNG to JPG often cuts the file size by 70–90%.
JPG does not support transparency, so transparent areas become white. Keep PNG for logos that need a transparent background, and use JPG for photos and anything you need to upload or email.
Frequently asked questions
Will I lose quality converting PNG to JPG?
JPG is lossy, but at quality 75–90 the difference is invisible for photos. Text and sharp graphics may show slight softening at low quality.
What happens to transparent backgrounds?
They are filled with white, because JPG does not support transparency.
Can I convert to WebP or PDF instead?
Yes. The Convert tab also offers PNG, WebP and PDF, so you can pick whatever the destination needs.
