Your images are processed on your device and never uploaded.

How to compress a PNG

  1. 1

Drop your PNG files into the box above, click to browse, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V.

  2. 2

Pick a quality preset. Balanced works for most images; choose quality 100 to keep the PNG lossless.

  3. 3

Check the new size under the image, then download it, or download every image at once as a ZIP.

Why compress PNG files?

PNG is perfect for screenshots, logos, icons and graphics with sharp edges or transparent backgrounds. The catch is size: a single full-screen screenshot can easily be 1–3 MB, which slows down web pages and fills up email attachments.

Most PNGs use far more colours than they need. By building a smart palette of up to 256 colours, the file shrinks dramatically, often by 50–80%, while text, edges and transparency stay crisp. If you need every pixel untouched, set quality to 100 and the PNG stays lossless.

Frequently asked questions

How does PNG compression work here?

PNG is a lossless format, so the main way to make it smaller is to use fewer colours. We reduce the palette to at most 256 colours, which is how tools like TinyPNG and pngquant work. Most screenshots and graphics look the same.

Is transparency kept?

Yes. Transparent and semi-transparent areas stay exactly as they were, so logos still sit cleanly on any background.

Can I compress several PNG files at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like. With "Same settings for all images" switched on, one setting applies to every file, and you can download them all as a ZIP.

Should I convert my PNG to JPG instead?

For photos, yes, JPG is usually much smaller. For screenshots, text, logos and anything with transparency, keep PNG. You can switch format any time in the Convert tab.
